What you get when you order the Duplex by itself is an open top version of the base cat house, with a specially designed floor. You remove the roof of the house you already own, place the Duplex on top, secure the two together by looping the bungee cords on the Duplex under the side window awnings on the base house. Then replace the roof and secure it in the same way you secured the two stories together.

The Duplex is specially designed to sit on top of the base house. The floor is designed to fit inside the lower house structure, and it has a hole so your pets can visit and play between naps. The insulated version has an insert to fill the hole if you prefer (shown below). The Duplex comes with a fleece blanket, so both stories have a soft, cozy surface.

Our Cat Houses are designed for and tested by cats. The original cat house has been refined over the past 10 years, and now it has everything kitties (and cat owners) want!

Originally designed for a big 20 lb. stray tom cat named Bubs, the interior space and door size are large enough for big cats, but small enough to keep out all but the smallest dogs. Bubs especially likes the three windows, which let in the sunlight, and allow him to keep an eye on things! He also spends many hours on top of the house, snoozing on the flat roof.

All wood construction allows the house to breathe, and the optional insulation package on the Outdoor Duplex keeps your kitty warm and cozy.

Interior view of the base Outdoor Cat House (above) with optional insulation package. The foil-lined R 7.2 insulation reflects heat back into the house, and is installed on the floor and back, which is then covered with mahogany plywood. The insulated floor is removable for cleaning.

The back and sides of the Outdoor Duplex are made of cladwood, a superior exterior grade wood product which has a wood grain look on the outside, and a smooth, finished, easy to clean surface on the inside. The front is a knot-free (and 'football' free) plywood.

Please note: The two interior views above are for illustrative purposes to show you the differences between the insulated and uninsulated models. The Duplexes are very similar to the base houses, but have a different floor design and come without a roof.
